    For Gasper Elikana (verse)

    For Gasper Elikana

    Hunted

    like elephants

    for ivory tusks

    gorillas poached

    for heads and hands

    Who benefits

    from feeding

    this ignorance?

    entrenched in

    superstitions and myths

    a hereditary condition

    Becomes a magical creature,

    Beheaded.

ten year old boy or not,

    Sun blistered. Nearly blind…

    One leg hacked off

    Awake. Heart pumping fear.

    Such violence. Such agony.

    Alive.

    Do you hear me?

    Hacked alive. Bleeding out…

With no way but to stand out

    an albino in Tanzania

    dismembered…

    worth $75,000.

    And ignorance about you

    has always been well fed...

Very powerful! Speaks to unspeakable horror with such grace and clarity. The sheer force of your heart's longing for compassion makes me weep.

Thank you for leaving a comment! I will always respond back. You recognizing that longing for compassion... made me weep. I figured it up and the price on their heads is over 100 years of the average East African's yearly income...that is devastating.
