This young lady, Laura Dekker, was born on a boat, has been raised on a boat and sailing a boat with her parents since she was four, sailing solo since she was six. She lives on a boat right now with her father.
This is not your average 13 year old and I believe that the authorities need to realize the incredible insight her father has, having raised her in rather small quarters and having seen years from birth on, as to how his daughter relates and reacts to life on open waters.
What would be compromise, at this point, with the authorities in it already?
If someone would donate the usage of a boat for her father to make the same journey from an unobtrusive yet assistive distance.
This is not a case of abuse or neglect. This is a case of Parents trusting the child that they have raised... on a boat. The authorities may not like how she has been raised or approve of what she has already accomplished at such a young age, but it is 'already a done deal'.
That is the way it goes, when a child is blessed to have parents with a love for doing something. Whatever the interest may be, children will often be into it at a young age right along side their parent...
Families hold in common their interests and loves, which is why I don't think a court appointed custodian will make the better choices for her best interests as they don't share her interests to realize what is really best for her interests.
Sail Pippi! Sail!
**************
"Youth protection services...before the civil youth court in Utrecht...sought to suspend the parents' custodial rights... Any future decision Laura's parents would take about their daughter... (would have to have a court appointed custodian's approval).
Attorney De Lange said Laura's father Dick Dekker filed the application to remove his daughter from the population registry(which is a simple and relatively easy formality)on the same day the court heard the case.
Laura has triple nationality. She was born on a boat in New Zealand's maritime territory. Her father is Dutch and her mother is German. The girl's parents are divorced and she lives with her father on his boat near Wijk bij Duurstede."
