5:06 AM A piece of your heart
If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?
— Alexander Solzhenitsyn
In the constant drive to find and maintain “balance,” a popular term that means to “prevent all imbalance and discomfort (not what it really means but how it is understood these days).” People tend to fall into a kind of black and white thinking that is the epitome of being judgmental.
And the person we most judge, and judge unfairly, are ourselves. The only guarantee of goodness lies in always making a choice that follows what one believes is good. In order to understand what is good we need more than the rules of morality and ethics. We need a willingness to always be learning. The more we understand ourselves through our experiences – our capacity to be both good and evil, the more we can make decisions that are guided by a sense of depth and authenticity to our beliefs.
Become willing to see and accept the presence of what is “not good” within you, and choose to act on what is “good.” Do not turn a blind eye to the wholeness of you, but learn how everything inside of you is a part of a balance that leads to a life worth living.
