7:49 AM the art of closing doors
Everyone has someone that they think of when they shouldn't. Memories that bring hot flashes of anger, shame, guilt or loss. Maybe it is a love gone wrong but you cannot let them go even though you know you must.
Practice this.
When the person comes to mind, picture them standing outside of your front door. Say "You are in the past now" and imagine the door shutting on them. For people you may be angry at, feel free to slam the door and do let yourself see the shock in their eyes. For people that you love, no matter how appropriate or inappropriate you know that love to be, imagine yourself stepping outside for a second to hug them, hold them, tell them you love the, but it is time to say goodbye. Then step back into your house and close the door gently.
Repeat as needed. Things will get easier. The past will begin to laid to rest and you will be able to focus more of your energies on the present.
