Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 12:50PM psychoanalysis of a mad kitten
I had one of those mornings where I stopped what I was doing and sat, watching the mad kitten, as she was totally off in her own world and just wondered, what on earth a) is going through her mind? And b) where on earth does her sense of logic come from.
We had just come from a mad ½ hour of her tearing in and out of the house, up and down the stairs in the studio and then she would dash up to the desk, back arched, fur up, bouncing stiff legged with her eyes wild and ears back before stopping, staring at me and then madly dashing off again. By the time I stopped to just watch her she was tired. She was lying on the floor on her back, batting at the treat ball (which was above her head, totally uninterested in the treats within, just making noise), and her hind legs, of course, were sticking straight up in the air with her toes spread.
She was...completely oblivious to anything around her. Dogs were barking, sirens were going off and she was just contentedly tapping the treat ball back and forth while looking at it upside down.
Makes me wonder what would happen to any child that I raised. Although I do take a bit of pride in the fact that she is almost 5? 6? And her whole world is about playing. I didn't realize how unusual that was until a friend pointed it out. She plays, she mostly sleeps through the night with me and she...has her own thing going on.
But most of her "whole thing" is me. We could be poster children for codependency. Then again, we are never far apart and never have been her whole life.
I wonder though, with her insanely annoying habit of tap tap tapping me in the back with her paw until I turn around and then walking away like nothing was going on what on earth makes up her little world? The rules she has....no, after 11 I cannot sit at the desk and work but I am allowed to bring the laptop into bed. Yes, the door should be open but no, she may not go out. Yes, she goes to great lengths to catch mice and bring them into the house unharmed but no, she is not that interested in them after 5 minutes or so.
I have always wondered what would happen if she knew how to knit. What it would reveal. I had a friend who was a textile designer and she had spiders in her basement. Every week she would feed them something new - beer, honey, fruit juice - and then go photograph the strange webs they would weave.
I am determined at some point to set up a camera to film her doing that bizarre tap tap tapping thing, you have to see it to understand it.
I have had way too much coffee today.
