Remember that conversation I told you about a while ago about how computer stuff has become so streamlined to make it easier for anyone to use that now you can't do anything?


There was a news story about a study they did that showed how overly intuitive and helpful programs are making people "dumber." Less critical thinking and problem solving, while people can perform more complicated tasks in the moment, they cannot retain the knowledge to be able to do it (like solve the same puzzle) two months later while someone who had a pain-in-the-ass program could.


Makes sense. I mean, there was also one that was highly critical of Google's model of information seeking. That perhaps it is so fast and so broad that it is rendering thinking a thing of the past. The example they gave was of the London Taxi exam. Right now, to get your license, you have to demonstrate knowledge of the city. All the taxi's are being equipped with Sat/NAVs doing away with this requirement.


It is ...ok....not to know everything.

Just like it is ok to discover that you were wrong and now you are right as long as you remember that as you grow and learn the ways in which you are "right" currently will probably become "wrong" later.


But learning needs to match our development.


Its like...child prodigies...a child can be a virtuoso in any different way, exceeding the abilities of any learned adult, but the child will burn out before they reach their stride with their genius.


Information is not the sole source of growth.

You can be highly informed and not one whit of it, not one syllable brushes against your ability to undestand and act on things in full concert (mind, body, emotions etc).


You just have a nice vocabulary and can have interesting conversations.
