back to zero

Zero is the state between left and right. It is the balancing point from which you step off by making a choice. Once the choice is made, you are no longer at zero.

However, you can always return there in order to "reset" your options.

I have been having a bunch of discussions about groups again with people, they are coming up more and more because of something that I am doing (which is mine and mine alone).

But what is funny is how we spend all this time trying to find an echo of our identity in the groups we belong to (or lay claim to) but in the end it all comes down to wanting another human being's presence next to us. It is rare that there are riders or conditions on who that presence is. Loved ones would be great, but in a pinch, any warm and caring body will do.

I find it interesting that many people, after a lifetime of striving to find ways to separate themselves from others through politics, religion or other types of identities - sink back into the one and only group identity we have. We are all human. You don't have to believe anything special or do anything special or like certain things to be a part of this group. You are born into it.

Part of all this thinking comes from the work I am beginning on my next big workshop, the Art of Dying. Pardon the pun but don't hold your breath for this one, it is taking some time to delicately construct. In part because it is not about the actual act of dying, but the art of living within the idea that you are human and how this relates to motivations, creativity and efforts.

I will have other workshops out way before that. I fixed the buggy one at onlineworkshops.ws and am in the process of creating the Spanish version.

The things is, how much of what we do and call important and shape our lives around stays with us when it comes to the point when we are leaving this life?

What would happen if we began to shape our laws, attitudes and efforts from the end, rather then the middle or beginning? Like Chesterton suggests, maybe the way to go about it all is not in what we picture in the future as our lives going on, but in an acknowledgement of the shared ending. If we lived as if we all arrived at the same place, wanting the same things - how would that change us?

I am almost back to recording Chesterton, another day or two, once I am sure that damn workshop is fine and have the audio up.

Now, I am picking at the Song and creating a shooting script. This is like film-school boot camp.
