I meant to get another chapter of Chesterton recorded today but ahhhhhhh....the 5 hour nap in the middle of the day really messed with that (hee).

Its odd...oh, wait, first off if you missed my return to the Inkwell last night to sit and chew the fat with Nyla about writing and a bit more about how I got started you should go hear it. The show is here.

I am really, really happy to announce that Michael agreed to come back onto Sunday Radio and this time, we will be Edgar Allan Poe and Sarah Helen Brightman. I found a copy of their last letters that is in the public domain AND a copy of one of her books of poetry - so you will hear letters written between them during their ill-fated courtship and their work. I will open the show up to two hours (this will be on Sunday July 11 at 11am EST) and will more than gladly take callers who want to read their favourite Poe or, any other poet of that era.

Enough of that...

whoops...maybe not, and I am working on the next free workshop which will be "Performing the Written Word" which will not be "Learn how to read like Cassandra Tribe!" uh uh...but it is going to cover what goes on when you read aloud - in you and the audience and why it is such a powerful thing. Various tips and tricks I have learned to help you ease into things and get more comfortable doing it; and things you can think about doing to make your reading more engaging in your own style.

and its funny, we talked about that a fair amount last night, not so much the performing part but what it means, and how important it is, to really listen to yourself and develop your own style. Sometimes it is really easy to get caught up in....positive attention, that you sort of become reluctant to continue exploring your own path because there is the risk that people who responded so enthusiastically before - will not like the "new you."

Think about what happens when a rock star releases a new album and it is...different...from what fans are used to.

That is....to retain the strength of character to run the risk of falling out of favor or off the radar even, is something you have to continuously strive to shore up.

It does, after all, play into one of the core and universal problems of the modern psyche - fear of rejection and abandonment. In a world where we are instantaneously replaceable in all aspects (work, even the arts as it has become more consumer oriented) the one bastion of individuality and ....placement, the human relationship, has begun to take on a kind of consumerism itself.

We package ourselves up like products to sell to other people. Look at me! I am fit and fabulous! I have drive, ambition, my own car and plans for the future! I AM A WORRY FREE AND DEPENDABLE INVESTMENT.

you know what I'm saying?

Everything around us sends us the messages that all our problems come down to own part that can be fixed, acquired or replaced.

Which implies that a person has a moment when they are "done."

There is no done here.

Thank God, could you imagine?

My violin has shiny new strings now...all four. They came today and I put them on and have started the process of stretching them out, but what a difference already. I mean, for $26 on ebay you can't expect that your violin is going to come with good strings. These are...so-so strings, but better then I have had before. Funny to think they cost more then the instrument, but the change in tone is amazing. It is rounder, deeper, richer...

ok...back to work things
