little friends

AuthorCassandra Tribe | CommentPost a Comment | Share ArticleShare Article | Email ArticleEmail Article | Print ArticlePrint Article | PermalinkPermalink

Making friends takes practice.

If you are out of practice, sometimes you don't make friends with the ones you want.

I went out for breakfast today - a treat - I just got the workshop posted and I was having a hard time getting all excited about editing 200 shopping articles (hack money hack money hack money) and I had woken up to one of those private messages form someone that you sort of half like getting.

One of those "Are you the Cassandra Tribe that...."

only it wasn't poetry
it wasn't video
or film
or teaching
or philosophy

the next phrase was "wrote that article on how to build an underground bunker?"

Why yes I am.

I am a freelance writer. One of the areas in which I have expertise is not only construction, but in Nuclear, Chemical and Biological warfare. I did really well in that special training in the Army.

In a pinch, when no one will pay for Art, I keep myself in coffee writing technical and how-to articles.

It is good though, I think I have grown more as a writer through my interaction with a pool of very, very tough editors then through any editing process of my own.

anyway...back to friends...

so I went out to breakfast and...

I left the Mad Kitten outside. It was sunny and it has been rainy for days so she was under her tree in the dirt having a....mad kitten kind of time...

she has made new squirrel friends, one who comes and just...harangues her as she sits there...but no one special.

I came back from breakfast and called her.
But she did not come, this is unusual.
She waited until the last second and then ran up to the door (not me, also unusual) and then inside the cave.

Turns out, she had a little brown and white mouse with her. The kind that looked like somewhere in its family tree was someone's pet that got out.

And even though she tried to pick the mouse up oh so carefully, it was obvious that the mouse was not feeling good.

So we all sat and watched as the poor mouse stumbled around and then finally hauled itself up onto the rim of my bicycle tire and just about passed out. That is when I decided enough was enough and took the mouse outside and found it a safe place.

The mad kitten was devastated. She kept looking for the mouse and then finally went upstairs to her room and passed out.

The mouse, I am pleased to report, recovered and has moved on (at high speed I assume).

I am sitting here, writing this and slowly bringing the violin back into tune for the day.

Do you know that 8 years ago I began to go to a certain coffee shop (where ever I was but it started in Florida), every sunday, and I would make myself sit down and for 45 minutes a week - I would write about what it meant to be alive. Not just random things, I spent the first month making a list of all the possible topics I could think of: war, peace, money, love, friends, pets on and on and on and every sunday I would pick one and write on it.

Once a month I would read over what I had written and it was amazing to realize, at the beginning, that I was writing a bunch of stuff I really didn't believe in or that just sat on the surface of the subject - I had no idea what I thought, but I could fill pages with it and, it would sound like it meant something. A lot of it was platitudes, a lot of it was repeated slogans or ideas from books I had read et al.

Then I started to begin to try and figure out what I really believed. It has led me on a wild road and continues to lead me. But last night I released that workshop and it was like seeing....8 years of effort and presence and work rise up and take its stand beside me.

God that feels good.

And I cannot wait to get the rest of them done and out there.

Whoops - ok, if you go to take the online course you have to sign up for a free account at odijoo.com. You can use a fake first and last name to protect your identity but do need an email account you can access.

Once you have confirmed your email, it will bring you to your account screen. Click on "Marketplace" and then scroll down till you see the course (the loveandwords logo is shown along with the title). Click on enroll, then enroll again on the next screen and you are in.
